Historical InfoEdit

The Yakovlev Yak-1 was produced from 1940-1944 with a total of 8,734 produced total. The plane often protected Ilyushin IL-2  planes. The design was one of the most effective Soviet early-war planes. It was known to have problems with leaking fuel tanks and canopys that did not open leading to some pilots removing the sliding part of the canopy completely. At first the Yak-1 had no radio but by 1942 it was common to have a radio and by 1943 it was required.
