The U.S.S.R. is one of the four nations currently in World of Warplanes. The U.S.S.R. was famous for their ground attack aircraft, such as the IL-2. They were also known for their Yak and La fighters and later their MiG jet aircraft. Historically, the U.S.S.R. fought more with their tanks in land battles than their aircraft.

Russian aircraft are the most diverse tree in World of Warplanes, incorporating the most sluggish branch, but also incorporating a decent fighter branch as well. The playstyle of each line varies.

The Russian fighters start off incredibly agile with the I-16 series, effectively besting most fighters in terms of turn rate. From the LaGG-3 and onwards, the line really starts to shine, with good stats all around, but still having a visible edge in mobility, but with below average HP. The Yakovlev line incorporates the Yak-1 line, which revolves around extreme mobility with bad HP, similar to the Japanese planes, but having mediocre guns relative to its competitors, as well as the heavier Yak-7 line, incorporating large 37mm and even 45mm cannons at the cost of some mobility and especially climb rate.

The Russian ground attack planes have the worst mobility traits in-game, losing in speed and turn rate alike. However, they boast the highest firepower in-game rivaled by the heavy fighters and a powerful tailgun to defend themselves from fighters, along with the highest durability. They also can arm a plethora of ordnance, from rockets to medium bombs. Like their name implies, they're best for attacking ground targets, slowly turning the tide of battle. They also have the highest low altitude camo in-game. They're affectionally known as "sky whales" by the WoWP community, a name that suits the ILs due to their poor mobility, but excellent resilience to enemy fire.
